An intensive art elective designed to supplement and/or enhance the existing physical fitness program at your school. Dance Power offers students a chance to develop stories and express their stories through movement, which builds stronger ELA learners.
Music as a Revolution
A high quality music elective, aligned with the NYS Standards of the Arts-Music, with an emphasis on the migration of the Djembe drums from Africa to the United States. Music has played a crucial role in the social and political development across many cultures. Whether it is the sounds of the Bamana people in West Africa, the Jazz of the United States, or the Boleras in Puerto Rico-you hear the sound of the drum-the heart of the orchestra. The goal of this program is for the student to appreciate music as a language and understand the power a musical instrument has to tell a story.
This training aims to result in several benefits, such as, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Through systematic practice in the martial arts a person's physical fitness may be boosted (strength, stamina, flexibility, movement coordination, etc.), as the whole body is exercised and the entire muscular system is activated. Beyond contributing to physical fitness, martial arts’ training has benefits for mental health, contributing to self-esteem, self-control, emotional and spiritual well-being.
An intensive art elective design for performers and anyone else who want to free their bodies for maximum efficiency for self-expression. It will enable the student to identify habits that can reinforce their freedom of movement and balance. Students will learn to release bodily tension and move with more ease and poise thus becoming more conscious and accountable for the way they use their bodies. Students study selected plays from the perspectives of actors and directors, and the strategies of playwrights to develop the ability to imagine the play in performance and to appreciate the range of theatre's possibilities.
