From dance and music to animation, aviation, and STEM, Opus is where youth and professionals come to learn, create, and thrive—locally and globally.
Founded in 1988 by James Grant, Opus Dance Theatre is rooted in Harlem’s rich artistic legacy and committed to advancing the full spectrum of the Pan-African experience through performance and education. What began as a dance company has grown into a dynamic cultural institution that blends tradition with innovation, connecting students to history while preparing them for the future.
Through multi-disciplinary programs in dance, music, drama, creative communication, martial arts, animation, aviation, chess, and entrepreneurship, Opus equips young people with both artistic discipline and real-world skills. Our work builds confidence, sharpens critical thinking, and opens pathways that allow students to thrive locally and internationally.
We don't just teach dance; we build character, confidence, and community through four core areas of focus.
“Opus taught me that success starts with two things: exposure and audacity.”
